Facility upgrade at Drouin Primary School Early Learning Centre set to begin.

By Portal Admin - 21st July 2019 - Back to News

Drouin families will have access to more kinder places, with work set to begin on a facility upgrade at Drouin Primary School Early Learning Centre.

Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing today visited Drouin Primary School Early Learning Centre to turn the sod on the $761,620 project. The project includes:

  • additional program room, increasing licenced places by 44;
  • additional consulting spaces bringing total up to three—enabling additional Maternal and Child Health Services; and
  • additional outdoor play space.

The Andrews Labor Government provided $350,000 towards the new centre through a Children’s Facilities Capital Program grant. Local Government provided $411,620 towards the new centre.

Construction is expected to finish December, 2019 and will provide local families with young children access to additional kinder places.

The state’s biggest early education build will continue over the coming years, with almost 1,000 new and upgraded kinders to come.

The Labor Government will invest more than $1.6 billion over the next decade to build approximately 785 new kinders and expand 170 existing services.

The is part of a $5 billion plan to ensure every Victorian child has access to at least five hours of subsidised three-year-old kinder by 2022, progressively scaled up to 15 hours per week over the next decade.

This will be the largest social, economic and educational reform ever undertaken in early childhood learning in Victoria’s history.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing

"This will give local families a first-rate early childhood facility and ensure their kids get the most out of kinder."

"Making Victoria the Education State starts with the early years – that’s why we’re delivering unprecedented investments in early childhood services."
