Celebrate Australia Day in Latrobe City Australia Day Celebration: a day of reflection and a day where we can celebrate our communities. By Portal Admin - 27th January 2018 - Back to News There are plenty of free events and activities across Latrobe City for families to enjoy on Australia Day, Friday 26 January. And all Latrobe City outdoor pools will offer free entry and a sausage sizzle.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said Australia Day would be marked with traditional breakfasts and flag-raising ceremonies across the municipality.
"These community events are a great way to get to know others in your town and enjoy the celebrations. This year, there will be free breakfasts at Boolarra, Churchill, Moe, Morwell, Toongabbie, Traralgon, Yallourn North and Yinnar," Cr White said.
"There are Australia Day Ambassadors attending ceremonies in Moe and Traralgon this year. Clair Marsh will attend Moe and David Marsh will attend Traralgon. Their foundation, the Marsh Foundation, recycles medical goods to Indonesia, and works to improve the lives of impoverished children.
"Australia Day also marks the first of our citizenship ceremonies of the year. The ceremony will take place during the Civic Function at Kernot Hall, Morwell from 1pm and we will welcome our newest citizens as they take their pledge of allegiance. The ceremony is followed by the announcement of our Australia Day Awards winners, including Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year, and conclude with light refreshments. Everyone is welcome to attend this community event," Cr White said.
Cr White said the outdoor pools at Traralgon, Moe and Yallourn North would also be open and offer free entry and a sausage sizzle.
"And if you’re looking to keep fit and have fun at the same time, the Latrobe Community Health Service Heart Walk takes place at Victory Park from 9am.
"However you mark the occasion, I wish you and your family well. Australia Day is a day of reflection and a day where we can celebrate our communities," Cr White said.
