Wellington Shire makes available up to $5,000 to fund great community projects

Application for community assistance grant that would benefit and bring the community together and engage in events and activities.

Wellington Shire Council is encouraging community groups to apply now for a Community Assistance Grant – with up to $5,000 available to initiatives that benefit the wider community. Applications for this year’s second round of grants opens Tuesday 15 June for Community events – events that celebrate our community and increase the range of activities that the wider community can access. This includes festivals, open days, forums and more.

Community Assistance Grants Applications will be considered for events that celebrate the community, or aspects of culture and identity where applicants must aim to bring the community together to actively engage them in an event or activity

Funding categories

Wellington Shire’s not-for-profit groups seeking funding of $2,001 to $5,000 in the following categories:

  • Community projects – projects that are important to the community, including community gardens, murals, playground equipment, project and strategic planning, feasibility studies and event-management plans
  • Community facilities – minor capital works projects that increase the access and use of a facility for the community, such as building extensions, accessibility improvements and shade shelters

Community assistance grants

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Garry Stephens said Community Assistance Grants are a recognition of the important contribution local organisations make to the community. "And if you have a project or event in mind but aren’t sure how to complete your grant application, our Grants Officer is always available to help you." Cr Stephens said.

Send your application

Applications are made via the Wellington Shire Council website, using the SmartyGrants online system, which can be shared online among team members via a secure log-in, so everyone in a community group can contribute. Council also offers Quick Response Grants of up to $2,000 for events, projects and facilities, which are open all year round. For more information, visit community assistance grants.
