Bus trip to National Gallery Vic to view Pissarro’s works

The Friends of Latrobe Regional Gallery are running an exciting bus trip to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne to see the stunning exhibition ‘Pissarro: The First Impressionist-A Retrospective Exhibition’

By Latrobe City Council - 11th May 2006 - Back to News

Regarded by many as the father of Impressionism, Camille Pissarro

(1830 –1903) is the subject of this major retrospective exhibition. Charting the breadth of the artist’s career, the exhibition assembles more than 100 works including major paintings, prints and drawings as well as lesser known works.

Pissaro painted rural French life, particularly landscapes and workers in the fields as well as Parisian scenes. Whilst teaching in Paris, he taught Paul Cezanne and Paul Gauguin. His influence on the Impressionists is underrated; not only were many of the ideas his own, but he also managed to remain on friendly, mutually respectful terms with such difficult personalities as Edgar Degas, Cézanne and Gauguin. Pissarro exhibited at all eight of the Impressionist exhibitions.

Latrobe Regional Gallery friends invite you to join a one day bus trip to the Pissarro exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The bus trip will include the bus ride to and from Melbourne, morning tea at the gallery upon arrival, followed by an informative introductory talk exploring the art and life of Camille Pissarro; and then entry into the exhibition where participants can enjoy viewing the works at their own pace. Time will be allocated for a lunch break.

The date of the bus trip is Saturday 20 May and the bus departure times: are 7am Traralgon - Railway Station, 7.15am Morwell - Latrobe Regional Gallery and 7.30am Moe - Courthouse. The bus will depart Melbourne at 2pm dropping off at the pick up locations. The cost of the trip is $38 general public and $35 Latrobe Regional Gallery Friends members. Bookings are essential on 5128 5700 by Friday 19 May.
