Acclaimed artists teach drawing at the GalleryA dynamic creative drawing workshop featuring the artists currently on show in the exhibition presence will be held at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Saturday 11 December. By Latrobe Shire Council - 1st December 2004 - Back to News Latrobe Regional Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, explained that workshop participants will view presence and then join Queensland artists Elizabeth Lamont and Sandra Ross for a day of active drawing.
"Participants will spend the morning session of the workshop with Elizabeth Lamont, who encourages creative and expressive large scale drawing in the mediums of charcoal, pencil and pastel. Elizabeth will lead participants through a drawing project, which will encourage them to explore the powerful techniques of drawing. The afternoon session will involve a creative book making workshop with Sandra Ross, whose books include the use of non-traditional material, such as plastic and Perspex. A discussion and demonstration of some of the drawing techniques that are used in the exhibition presence will also take place during the workshop."
Ms Tegart explained that Elizabeth and Sandra will draw on their experiences in the art industry to assist participants foster and develop their artistic skills.
"Elizabeth has completed a Masters Degree at the Queensland College of Art and in 2003 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship which allowed her to study at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. Sandra has also completed her Masters Degree and has an extensive history of teaching. Sandra was also recently a guest speaker and artist at the National Artist Book Forum at Artspace Mackay," Ms Tegart said.
"Elizabeth and Sandra are two of Australia’s finest artists, using the human body in their art as a way of exploring the past. The use of colour in their work can be muted and absent, giving form and texture prominence. Whilst the ideas behind their work diverge, their choice of subject matter and technique form an exhibition that is a powerful and coherent whole, providing regional audiences with an opportunity to see quality drawing and printmaking," Ms Tegart added.
The creative drawing workshop is suitable for beginners to advanced artists. The workshop costs $44 per person and will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 11 December. Paper and some materials are provided, however participants are required to bring charcoal (large willow), drawing materials, pastels and an eraser (soft putty).
