Russell Northe on Notice

Following the Federal Election it is clear that the Latrobe Valley has turned to the Labor Party with significant swings of 4% or more in many polling booths.  President of the Morwell branch of the ALP, Mr Howard Williams said, "The Morwell and Traralgon branches had campaigned very hard with the valuable assistance of the broader labour movement during the election period."  The local unions and their members had campaigned against the Howard government’s Workchoices legislation while the local party members and supporters had supported the Gippsland Labor candidate Jane Rowe’s comprehensive campaign.  "It is clear that the people in the Morwell District have returned to support the Party and put local State member for Morwell, Russell Northe on notice.  Saturday’s result in Morwell and Traralgon would see the State seat returned to the ALP."  Mr Williams added.  The ALP is determined to return the seat to Labor and an organiser will be appointed by the Party to work in the District.  Saturday’s result is an indication that the Labor Party continues to enjoy significant support in the area and with the Brumby Government committed to delivering all the election promises to the Latrobe Valley the next Labor candidate for Morwell will present a strong challenge to local member Russell Northe’s attempt to be re-elected.
