Bowelscan Helps Increase Survival

Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Beth Ripper is encouraging residents to take advantage of the Rotary club’s Bowelscan program.

As part of the project, simple and painless kit Bowelscan kits are available to the public for $6.

"Research shows that annual screening reduces the mortality rate of bowel cancer by 33% so this is a great initiative" said Cr Ripper.

If detected early bowel cancer is curable however in Australia, bowel cancer deaths are more than double the road toll.

"Any project that helps early detection and may help increase the numbers of people who survive bowel cancer is fantastic and I applaud the Rotary clubs for their hard work on this project," said Cr Ripper.

Rotary’s Bowelscan project has run for 24 years.

You can purchase a test kit from your local Rotary Club or participating pharmacy.
