Guests were welcomed by Latrobe City councillor, Cr Sandy Kam, and general manager community liveability, Michael Edgar.

Cr Kam said that the end of year youth councillor celebration was a great experience.

"The celebration gave the youth councillors the opportunity to showcase some of the activities that they have been involved in during the year. It allowed council, the young people and their families and friends to celebrate youth council’s achievements and to acknowledge their efforts," Cr Kam said.

"The youth councillors each made a speech on one activity or aspect of the program that they have had direct involvement in. Some of the activities that were presented on the night included participation in Remembrance Day ceremonies; representing the young people of Latrobe at the Australian Sister Cities Conference in Gosford; meeting with the Federal Minister for Youth and Sport the Honourable Kate Ellis; and participating in Youth Fest 2008 – Make a Noise!

"Other activities included the design and development of a youth information card; attending a leadership dinner with past and present Gippsland Community Leadership Program participants and attending the welcome reception for the Takasago student visit earlier in the year."

"The participants were presented with a certificate of appreciation and a gift from Latrobe City Council in recognition of their contribution to the program," Cr Kam said.

Latrobe City’s community development officer, Teresa Pugliese, said it has been a busy year for the Latrobe City’s youth councillors.
