Invitation - International Women's Day

On behalf of Latrobe Regional Hospital, I would like to invite you and your colleagues to attend our 'International Women's Day 2007' luncheon, a fundraising event for the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre Appeal.

International Women's Day (IWD) is marked on the 8th March every year. It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.

2007 marks the 30th anniversary of International Women's Day. The first National Woman's Day was observed across the United States on 28 February 1909. In Australia, the first International Women's Day was held as a rally at the Sydney Domain on 25 March 1928.

This important day provides an opportunity to celebrate the progress made to advance women's rights and to assess the challenges that remain.

International Women's Day (IWD) encourages us to consider steps to bring about equality for women and girls in all their diversity and to celebrate the collective power of women past, present and future. A day to celebrate women's contribution to making Australia and the world a better place for everyone.

Purple, green and white are worn on International Women's Day.

The colours were said to represent: white for purity; purple for dignity, self-reverence and self-respect; and green for hope and new life.
