Car Parking Framework To Drive Investment
Council has recently adopted a Car Parking Framework Review for the Traralgon and Morwell CBDs to improve car parking infrastructure and car parking time allocations within the towns.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman, said that this decision at the last Council Meeting would allow Council to place a planning scheme amendment proposal on public exhibition and call for submissions.
"We will write to the Minister for Planning to place the planning scheme amendment proposal on public exhibition. This will reduce the need for planning permit applicants to complete their own car parking studies. Instead, there will be a cash in lieu requirement that can be considered when offsite car spaces are needed that we will collect for use on future car parking infrastructure in the towns.
"The planning scheme amendment proposal will have the dual result of providing a smoother application process for the business and allowing us more scope when it comes to planning for the future.
"The review was prompted after we carried out two car parking studies in the towns. We are also going to review car parking time allocations in Traralgon and Morwell in the next financial year. We consider that this kind of continual review of parking in our busy central activity areas will help promote business confidence and encourage further investment.
"We will ensure there is ample opportunity for the community to have a say on the parking in these two towns once the planning scheme amendment proposal is open for submissions, " Cr Harriman concluded
