Pet registration ambassadors to carry out door-knock campaignRead more about the door-knock campaign for pet registrations. By news@gippsland - 4th May 2016 - Back to News Pet registrations were due on 10 April 2016 and Latrobe City Council is launching an amnesty period from 2 May using the friendly team from Regi-Check to door-knock and answer questions about responsible pet ownership.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that the campaign would be supported by Council’s animal management team and would provide useful information on renewing pet registrations.
"It is a small price to pay for peace of mind – just $38 per animal or $19 concession. This door-knock campaign will provide those who might have slipped behind with their registrations the chance to do the right thing.
"If you receive a door-knock, you can talk to the ambassadors who can help with any of your questions and you can then arrange to go to your nearest service centre or library and register your animal, within four weeks," Cr Rossiter.
"We are really hoping that this amnesty will help people who may have overlooked their registration to get it sorted out. The campaign is about providing useful information about registering animals, and why, as a responsible pet owner, they must register them.
"During the four-week period after the door-knock campaign we will be holding our first ever Pets in the Valley expo at Old Gippstown (Saturday 21 May from 9am to 2pm). There will be an opportunity for people to access reduced rate microchipping services and chat to local vets about desexing or other animal welfare issues. We want people to do the right thing by their animals and the best outcome would be to see an improvement in registration numbers so that pet welfare is a top priority," Cr Rossiter said.
Staff from Regi-Check will be conducting a random door-knock from 2 May. They will be easily identifiable and will simply talk to you about animal management. They will not be issuing fines.
