Multicultural Event Funding Now Open

Grants of up to $100,000 are available for major multicultural festivals and events under the $1.1 million Unity through Partnerships grants program, Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said today.

Mr Northe said the central purpose of the grants program is to fund original and exciting events showcasing Victoria’s multicultural achievements.

"$4.4 million has been allocated to this program, over four years, to establish a calendar of major multicultural festivals and events across the State," he said.

"Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley both have a large multicultural community which has made a great contribution to our region," Mr Northe said.

"Each year these groups hold a number of festivals and events which celebrate their migrant heritage. I urge these ethnic communities to consider putting in an application for funding, which might provide some assistance in the organisation or the implementation of popular events."

Groups or different cultural and linguistic backgrounds are invited to form partnerships in seeking funding under the program, encouraging the participation of the entire community in celebrating and valuing cultural diversity, said Mr Northe.

"Diverse cultures, food, music and heritage can all come together under this funding program to create amazing new events emphasising our multicultural harmony.

"This program highlights the Liberal Nationals Coalition Government’s strong commitment to the multicultural sector."

Grant applications close on August 23 2011 for events held between September 2011 and July 2012, to http://omac.smartygrants.com.au/unitygrants or to OMAC Grants, GPO Box 4698, Melbourne VIC 3001, and applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by November 2011.

Further information and guidelines are available from www.multicultural.vic.gov.au/grants.
