2017 Beyond the Classroom exhibition now openThe Latrobe Performing Arts Education Program’s annual exhibition of student work Beyond the Classroom is being officially opened on Thursday 2 February. It will run until March. By Portal Admin - 31st January 2017 - Back to News Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said the exhibition showcased artwork from eight 2016 VCE students from Lavalla Catholic College and Kurnai College.
"This is their opportunity to exhibit their craft – whether that is in the field of studio arts, communication design, media or theatre studies. Works will include visual arts using all mediums as well as dramatic monologues delivered on the opening night of the exhibition.
"For the students it is a validation of their years of hard work. They get to perform or display their work for an audience and that is an invaluable experience," Ms Roberts said.
"The exhibition is a formal occasion with invited guest speakers who work or study in the arts to offer encouragement for the students. This sort of event begins to open doors for a future career.
"Each year we are always excited about meeting the student artists, to learn more about their work, their motivation and their hopes and dreams. To witness the dedication and passion of these students is inspiring.
"And to think that these student artists may one day be performing or exhibiting in their chosen discipline at a state, national or international environment; that is truly something very special," Ms Roberts concluded.
