"Rug Up And Read"

Children across Wellington can curl up with some great books on cold evenings

Children across Wellington can curl up with some great books on cold evenings as Wellington Library Service runs its popular Winter Reading Club.

The club welcomes children from Grade Prep to Grade 6 for eight weeks of fun, competitions and reading activities, with the chance to win rewards for their achievements.

Starting on Monday 1 July and continuing until Friday 30 August, the theme for this year’s club is "RUG UP AND READ".

Children can enter a competition to win book vouchers and other fun rewards by reading 10 books, completing a reading record and returning the record to their local library.

Wellington Children’s Services Coordinator Val Ellis said that each branch would create a small snowman as part of the promotional display.

"The Winter Reading Club has always been very popular with children who welcome the diversion of books and activities during cold, wet weather," said Val.

"Wellington Library Service is grateful for the support of Liz & Trevor Watt of Collins Booksellers, Raymond Street, Sale who sponsor this activity.

"In addition to the reading competition, during the July school holidays book club members can also enjoy an activity day with crafts and games."

The time and details of each activity day will be available from branch libraries.
