The aim of the association is to boost visitor numbers and expenditure in the local area.

Latrobe City Business Tourism Association chair, Ian Southall, said that the association was formed to provide positive leadership and marketing of Latrobe City as Gippsland’s regional tourism centre.

"We want to maximise the opportunities and benefits of tourism for our area whilst integrating the many and diverse local businesses associated with the tourism industry.

"Although the official launch was long awaited, as the association formed 12 months ago, over that time we have been working with Latrobe City Council and Tourism Victoria to produce a tourism plan directly for Latrobe City," Mr Southall explained.

"During the development of this plan, the association found that ‘whatever business you’re in, you’re in tourism’. Tourism generates a large financial boon each year to Gippsland’s economy. It is our aim to ensure that businesses and organisations within the local area can collaborate and share ideas to further promote Latrobe City as the hub for visitors to Gippsland.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed said that the Latrobe City tourism plan was presented to Councillors last week.

"The association is now well established and last week’s launch was a celebration of all that has been achieved to date and created a sense of optimism for the future," Cr Lougheed concluded.

The Latrobe City Business Tourism Association meets every third Wednesday of the month at various locations in the Valley. For further information regarding the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association, please contact the chair, Ian Southall on 0413 590 220.
