Yallourn North Pool to reopen ThursdayThe Yallourn North outdoor pool will reopen at noon tomorrow (Thursday 12 January) following a temporary closure forced by vandals last week. By Latrobe City - 12th January 2006 - Back to News Vandals tipped waste diesel oil into the filtration system, while also spilling material onto part of the pool’s concrete surround and adjacent grassland.
Latrobe City’s acting chief executive officer, Philip Marsh, said that preliminary tests taken at the outdoor pool earlier today have given the all-clear for the pool to be reopened.
"The Yallourn North outdoor pool has been closed to the public since the attack, to allow polluting material to be recovered and shipped safely for disposal. I’m happy to say that today’s tests show the recovery work has been successful and as a consequence the pool will reopen tomorrow," Mr Marsh said.
Deputy mayor, Cr Bruce Lougheed, said he was delighted that the community could once again enjoy the Yallourn North pool.
"There has been a tremendous effort by staff to get the facility back operating as soon as possible. I’d like to thank all those involved for their work; those dealing with the mechanical clean-up and recovery, those involved in getting the pool back to normal for swimming, and the health services team involved in sampling and testing material.
"It’s great to know that families can once again enjoy the delightful setting and environment that the Yallourn North outdoor pool offers," Cr Lougheed said.
Anyone who has information about the vandalism incident is asked to contact Moe police on 5127 2222, or Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700 or after hours 0408 512 953.
