Wizards, witches and Muggles from around Latrobe City are invited to join fellow Harry Potter fandom from across the world at the sixth annual Harry Potter Book Night this week.

For the first time ever, Latrobe City Libraries will host and join in the official Harry Potter Book night with events planned for the Moe, Morwell and Traralgon libraries in February.

With their wands at the ready, witches and wizards aged 8 to 18 are invited to celebrate the Harry Potter books penned by the prolific wordsmith J.K. Rowling.

The Triwizard Tournament themed event will include enchanting games and magical crafts, with attendees encouraged to dress as your favourite Harry Potter character or creature.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said that he too was a Harry Potter fan and loved the imagination of a newly created world that the books formed.

"To see the magic of J.K. Rowling’s work come to life from the pages of her books is something pretty special. I have read many describe the Harry Potter series as the most imaginative, magical and captivating stories ever written, and how true that is," Cr Clancey said.

"There are generations of families who have passed on the magic of these unforgettable books to the next.

The messages of love, friendship, family, courage and many more inspiring life lessons are written in the pages.

"Opening the doors of our libraries to celebrate the worldwide Harry Potter Book Night is very exciting. I know for many they will be brave enough to put their name into the Goblet of Fire, for those who haven’t experienced the magic of Harry and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or perhaps our Libraries why not get along and see what we have to offer."

Tickets are essential. The Traralgon event has sold out, with limited tickets remaining at the venues.
