Blue Rock Lake boat ramp gets $529,000 funding to improve access with an all-abilities pontoon, parking, and kayak platform
An upgrade to Blue Rock Lake's Old Tanjil Road boat ramp will provide better access with a new all-abilities pontoon, wheelchair-accessible facilities, and improved boating infrastructure, enhancing outdoor recreation for all.
People of all abilities can look forward to better access to the water at Blue Rock Lake thanks to an upgrade at the Old Tanjil Road boat ramp. A contractor has been appointed to construct the new all-abilities pontoon that will replace an existing one, with works planned to start early next year.
Blue Rock Lake boat ramp upgrade, along with stocked fish and existing all-abilities facilities, creates a more accessible outdoor space for everyone to enjoy nature
Inclusive boating access
Southern Rural Water is partnering with the Victorian Fisheries Authority's Better Boating division to deliver this project. The project, valued at approximately $529,000 has been funded through the reinvestment of recreational boating licence and registrations fees, and will include:
- Wheelchair-accessible gangway
- All-abilities parking bay
- Gangway gradient indicator
- Wider landing area with seating and a hoist for easy access to boats
- Kayak launching platform
Southern Rural Water Managing Director Cameron FitzGerald said they are excited to deliver a project that will expand recreational opportunities for everyone. "The new pontoon will provide modern, fit-for-purpose infrastructure that enables people of all abilities to safely access and enjoy the water," he said.
Enhanced lake access
This upgrade will enable more people to enjoy the great outdoors at this popular destination, where 640,000 trout and native Australian bass fingerlings have been stocked in the past five years by the Victorian Fisheries Authority. The boat ramp upgrade complements the existing all-abilities playground and picnic facilities at Blue Rock Lake, creating a welcoming and accessible space for anyone wanting to connect with nature.
The northern pontoon and the Old Tanjil Road boat ramp will remain open during construction, with appropriate fencing and signage to ensure safety. The nearby Spillway Road boat ramp will also be available for those wishing to launch their boats. To learn more about recreational opportunities on our Blue Rock Lake page.
