Northe calls for extended bus service to cater for Traralgon’s east

Member for Morwell Russell Northe is calling on the State Government to extend a Traralgon bus route to ensure public transport users can access businesses and homes in the town’s east.

With a number of developments in Traralgon East over recent years Mr Northe said the extension of bus route 45 was needed now more than ever.

"The proposed extended route would provide improved access to businesses in the Traralgon East precinct which are currently not serviced by public transport," Mr Northe said.

Both Mr Northe and Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath have spoken with business owners, residents, employees and consumers about bus services in Traralgon’s east.

"All agree that an extension to bus services in this area is required as soon as possible," Ms Bath said.

"It’s fantastic to see large scale businesses choosing to establish themselves in Traralgon’s east and it’s important that the town’s bus services cater for these new developments," she added.

The proposed extension of the route would depart Park Lane in Traralgon and travel east along the Princes Highway to Rocla Road, before returning to Stockland Plaza via the Princes Highway and Davidson Street Traralgon.

Mr Northe said bus infrastructure was already in place to enable this proposed extension to occur and he had written to the Minister for Public Transport advocating for the new route.

"The Minister stated that Public Transport Victoria (PTV) was holding community consultation sessions in the Latrobe Valley in relation to the bus network and to wait until after such time," Mr Northe said.

"PTV ran community consultation sessions during August and advised that there was strong community support for the extension of this route but we are yet to see this extension happen."

Mr Northe has launched a petition calling on the Andrews Government to commit to an extension of existing bus route 45.

Copies of the petition are available from his electorate office at 66 George Street, Morwell or his website http://www.russellnorthe.com.au/petitions/

"I will continue to advocate to the Government for an extension to bus route 45 for the benefit of all Traralgon residents."
