Find Out What’S Hatching In Latrobe City

Where Do I Belong?

Where Do I Belong?

A children’s storybook that addresses the themes of acceptance, tolerance and living in Latrobe City will be launched at two special events next week.

The launches at Moe PLACE and the Traralgon Library will include book readings, children’s activities, face painting and lots more.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen, said the storybook had been commissioned by Latrobe City libraries to translate the Latrobe 2026 community vision into an easy to read book for children.

"This year is the National Year of Reading so a children’s storybook is the perfect way to present the Latrobe 2026 vision to families. The vision states that in the year 2026 our region will be liveable, sustainable and inclusive and these are the themes Where do I Belong? addresses.

"The book follows Clementine and Ferdinand as they discover a strange creature and set about finding it a name. Along the way they visit some familiar Latrobe City locations and learn about fitting in," Cr Vermeulen said.

"The free launch events will be held in two locations and at different times to ensure that as many families across the municipality can attend. Two very special guests will read the book and we are asking children to come dressed as what they want to be in the year 2026. There will be activities for the children, face painting, the unveiling of a special cake and lots more fun.

"It is important to provide our children with lots of opportunities to read. Reading improves vocabulary, opens up discussions and develops the imagination. Where do I Belong?, like any storybook, is designed to get children thinking as well as reading," Cr Vermeulen concluded.

The launch events for Where do I Belong? will be held on Thursday 29 March at Moe PLACE, Vale Street, Moe from 10am to 11am and at Traralgon Library, Kay Street, Traralgon from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Entry is free.
