Building Work at Home
Latrobe City residents uses the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions as opportunity to undertake building and maintenance work at home.
Our hardware and painting shops are telling us that many Latrobe City residents are using the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions as an opportunity to undertake building and maintenance work at home.
Latrobe City Mayor Councillor Dan Clancey said while it was encouraging to see so many residents keen to remain active and purposeful whilst social distancing rules are in place to combat the spread of COVID-19, home renovators will still need to comply with the Building Act to ensure the safety of the community.
Latrobe City’s building services team is available to answer questions and provide all relevant information about building works, permits and exemptions under building regulations. Council’s website also details this information. Private building surveyors, whose contacts can be found on the Council website, are also still operating and able to issue building permits as required ‘We strongly urge all property owners looking to undertake building work or maintenance on their property at this time to do the right thing and contact Council’s Building Services team for further information in order to avoid any enforcement action,’ Cr Clancey said.
