Remembrance Day – A Time To Reflect Member for Morwell Russell Northe today encouraged people and communities throughout the Morwell electorate to continue the tradition of pausing at 11am on By Russell Northe - 8th November 2013 - Back to News Monday 11 November to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and servicewomen. "November 11 is an important day on the Australian calendar with Remembrance Day services to be conducted across Australia and indeed the world," Mr Northe said. "The day is significant as it marks the end of World War 1 and offers an opportunity for our communities to honour those men and women who have served our great country in times of conflict. "Of course we should not also forget the sacrifices currently being made by our serving men and women in areas of conflict around the world." Mr Northe encouraged community members to attend local ceremonies, and keep the tradition alive. "It has been heartening to see so many young people attending Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day services over the past few years. These services are a huge part of our Australian history, and it is essential that we continue to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our countrymen and women appropriately," Mr Northe said. "We must ensure that we continue to pay our respect to our fallen heroes and that they are remembered and honoured by future generations.
"I encourage all people in my electorate to don a red poppy, attend a commemorative service or simply observe a minute’s silence on 11 November as a mark of respect for those who sacrificed so much.
"This year I will be attending a service at Traralgon at 10.10am at the War memorial, Kay Street Gardens."
Local services will be held at: MORWELL 10:40am Cenotaph, Tarwin Street Morwell TRARALGON 10:10am Dedication before service at the Traralgon RSL followed by Cenotaph, Franklin Street, Traralgon YALLOURN/NEWBOROUGH 11:00am Cenotaph, Darlimurla Ave, Newborough
GLENGARRY 10.30am Cenotaph, Corner Main Street and Cairnbrook Road
