Crocheted rugs donated to Traralgon Meals on Wheels recipientsA band of creative volunteers have crocheted two knee rugs and a shawl to be given as gifts to recipients of Meals on Wheels in Traralgon. By Latrobe City Council - 28th August 2003 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said that the gifts were donated as an act of kindness by the Traralgon branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).
"The Traralgon CWA has generously donated the beautiful hand-crocheted rugs and shawl to three recipients of Meals on Wheels in the Traralgon area. The recipients were nominated by the volunteers on the program and were delighted to have received such thoughtful and appropriate gifts," Cr Middlemiss said.
President of the Traralgon CWA, Mrs Anne Smith was on hand to present the gifts to the Meals on Wheels volunteers.
"Our members were only too pleased to be able to give the rugs and shawl to members of our community. The Meals on Wheels program is important to the many residents in Traralgon who are unable to prepare their own meals. Receiving a hot, nutritious meal at least once a day must be a comfort, particularly during these colder months," Ms Smith said.
Cr Middlemiss said that the Meals on Wheels service in Traralgon delivered around 320 three-course, hot meals a week to recipients in the Traralgon area.
"There are also frozen meals for the weekend which are delivered on Fridays. This dedicated group of people are always looking for new helpers so if you can volunteer for this worthy program, please call Wendy Hansen at Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700," Cr Middlemiss concluded.
For those interested in joining the Traralgon CWA, please contact Anne Smith on 5129 4271.
