No Road and Drainage Upgrades for Sunset Strip

Bass Coast Shire Council resolved to not progress with the Sunset Strip Road and Drainage Upgrade, but approved of concept design for potential upgrade in the future.

Bass Coast Shire Council resolved to not progress with the Sunset Strip Road and Drainage Upgrade at the June Meeting last night.

Council did, however, approve a concept design for any potential future full or partial upgrades of infrastructure within the Sunset Strip Estate.

Option 4, which includes the provision of drainage as well as road improvements for all streets within the estate, was approved.

McHaffie Ward Councillor, Cr Kimberley Brown said Council voted to not progress with the works due to a lack of support from the Estate’s residents.

"We’ve done a significant amount of engagement and consultation with local residents on the issue of road and drainage upgrades, and there hasn’t been overwhelming support for the project," Cr Brown said.

"The works undertaken to-date will not go to waste however. We’ve approved the plans because things may change in the future; people buy and sell properties. Should the community want to come to us in the future seeking any of these upgrades, the plans and the engineering reports are all ready to implement."

On behalf of Council, Cr Brown thanked Sunset Strip residents for their participation and input throughout a number of community workshops and surveys regarding the upgrades.

"We understand it’s been an emotional issue for some, and we respect the wishes of the majority who have provided feedback that they don’t wish for the upgrades to go ahead."
