Victorian Treasurer John Lenders officially launched the campaign of Graeme Middlemiss for the seat of Morwell at the Gippsland Trades and Labour Council last night.

Mr. Middlemiss is a born and bred Latrobe Valley resident who has spent the best part of two decades fighting to improve living standards for workers and their families.

The campaign theme, ‘energy and experience’ encapsulates this long-term commitment.

"I’ll continue to fight for the Valley. If I’m elected to the Victorian Parliament, I’ll be using my vote to ensure any changes to industry here are accompanied by significant transitional support" Mr. Middlemiss said. "In changing times, it is important for Latrobe Valley residents to have a member who is part of government, who has access to Ministers and isn’t afraid to speak out for the Valley."

In particular, Mr. Middlemiss said rebuilding local infrastructure would be a priority for him if elected. "The return of rail freight, upgrading the hospital, starting work on the Traralgon Bypass, improving roads between Churchill and Morwell and Traralgon are all on my to-do list", Mr. Middlemiss said.

Since September the Brumby Government has already announced almost $9m of economic and workforce transition measures, including a $5m Jobs Fund to bring new investment and jobs into the Valley over the next 12 months.

"From my perspective, the Brumby Government delivers for regional Victoria and I would like to contribute to that as the local member in the next term of this Government" Mr. Middlemiss said.

Mr. Middlemiss also said that it was an honour having Mr. Lenders launch his campaign. "The Treasurer was raised on a dairy farm in Gippsland and over his time in government he has been a frequent visitor here."
