The East Gippsland Shire Council’s Economic Development Unit says there was has been an increase in gross revenue expenditure from $112 million to $167 million over the period 1999-2002.

The research also shows that domestic overnight visitor numbers increased from 536,000 to 679,000 with an average annual growth rate of 8.2 percent.

"We have assembled information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics as well as the Bureau of Tourism Research," the Shire’s Tourism and Business Support Coordinator Stephen Kleinitz said.

"The information we present to industry will continue to expand as we gather and compile more data on the different industries throughout East Gippsland."

Documents already available in the series on tourism in East Gippsland cover subjects including Domestic Day Visitors, Domestic Overnight Visitors, International Visitors, Expenditure and Employment and the Importance of Tourism.

Papers on the ‘East Gippsland Industry Establishments by Income Range’ and ‘East Gippsland Business Entities’ by Industry were also compiled recently.

Mr Kleinitz said single sheet electronic ‘flyers’ that summarised the information and which were a valuable tool for new business and residents in the region were available on the Council’s website."

"They provide an excellent ‘thumbnail’ picture about key tourism trends," he said.
