Classic Hollywood Scores Performed At Moe Town Hall Nella Ortisi and Allan Zavod will present ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’, a variety scores written by one of America’s most prolific composers, George Gershwin, at Moe Town Hall on Tuesday 25 May. By news@gippsland - 21st May 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Box Office and Program Coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that many of the scores performed during ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ are from Hollywood classics and well-known Broadway musicals.
"’Someone to Watch Over Me’ includes scores from timeless Hollywood movies, such as An American In Paris, Funny Face and Crazy for You, and highlights the most well known, romantic and provocative songs written by George Gershwin, such as ‘Embraceable you’, ‘I got rhythm’, ‘S’Wonderful’ and ‘They can’t take that away from me’," Ms Roberts said.
"Nella will perform these timeless and beautiful scores with style and grace, and Allan is very familiar with the work of George Gershwin, having recently returned from a successful tour of the United States, where he conducted the Greater Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra in a Tribute to George Gershwin’s America."
Ms Roberts said that both performers have had long and successful careers in Australia and overseas and have all performed with some of the finest musicians in the world.
"Nella began her professional singing career at an early age, and throughout her career she has performed extensively in Australia and South East Asia. She has also performed at some of Australia’s major venues for distinguished audiences of international delegates, including former US President Bill Clinton and former Australian Prime Ministers Bob Hawke and Malcolm Fraser," Ms Roberts explained.
"Nella has continued to tour Australia, recently performing a series of cabaret style performances with her show band at the Italian Australian Arts Festival in Queensland, collaborating with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to present "A Night in the Gorge", and regularly performing at the MGM Grand, where she will be returning later this year to perform with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra."
"Allan is a well-known jazz pianist, and has performed with some of the best in the jazz industry, such as Frank Zappa, trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and guitarist George Benson. Allan has also worked with some of Australia’s greatest musicians, including James Morrison, Kate Cebrano and Don Burrows. Other than working as a jazz-pianist, Allan is a well-known composer, scoring music for more than 30 films in Australian and American, and collaborating with other great musicians, such as famed guitarist Eric Clapton," Ms Roberts said.
Nella Ortisi and Allan Zavod will present ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ at Moe Town Hall on Tuesday 25 May at 11am. Tickets cost $11 and there will be complimentary tea and coffee from 10.30am. Tickets are available at the door or contact Latrobe City Box Office, telephone 5176 3559.
