Road Side Inspection Reveals Undersized Bream

In the very early hours of Sunday morning two Fisheries Victoria Officers from Lakes Entrance intercepted a vehicle south of Bairnsdale along the Mitchell River.

It will be alleged that the Fisheries Victoria Officers conducted a search of the car and located a total of 80 undersized black bream.

The minimum size limit for Bream in the Gippsland region is 28cm and the possession limit is 10 per day.

"The degree of undersize and the number of fish involved is of concern to Fisheries Victoria and I would imagine the community at large," said Peter Simpson, Senior Fisheries Officer at Lakes Entrance.

"This type of activity places the Bream fishery under pressure and negates the responsible efforts of those anglers who adhere to size and catch limits."

Fisheries Victoria Officers seized all fish, a total of 12 fishing rods and tackle on the night

Two Melbourne men will be charged on summons to appear at a Magistrates Court at a later date.

Members of the public who observe any apparent illegal fishing activity in the Gippsland Lakes are reminded to call 13FISH (133 474) at any time of day, seven days a week.
