Latrobe City’s international relations officer, Yuki Poole, said that Takeo Fujita was born in Takasago City and studied Japanese Calligraphy at the Japan College of Calligraphy.

"Calligraphy arrived in Japan from China. Japanese Calligraphy is completed in a matter of seconds and the characters must be written only once. It is intricate, delicate and beautiful. Japanese calligraphy attempts to bring words to life, and endow them with character.

"It is fascinating to watch a calligraphy master at work and we look forward to viewing Takeo Fujita’s creations at the exhibition and the Japanese Day demonstration," Ms Poole said.

"Takeo is a member of a number of Japanese calligraphy organisations and has won numerous awards."

Ms Poole said that Takeo Fujita’s work is also being displayed through the Sister City Friendship Exhibition currently featuring at the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

"This eye-catching display of Japanese calligraphy celebrates the unity between Latrobe and Takasago City. The exhibition will feature until Monday 15 October," Ms Poole added.
