Revamping Brennan Park, Sale

Wellington Shire Council will start work shortly on a $25,000 revamp of Brennan Park in Sale’s Desailly Street, to greatly enhance its appearance and facilities.

By Wellington Shire Council - 5th March 2004 - Back to News

The project, which is due to get underway later this month, follows consultation with local residents and takes on board many of their suggestions about how the 1.5 hectare site, currently something of a green wasteland, should be improved.

Brennan Park is a major piece of open space in the north of the city and key elements of its enhancement include:

  • creating an extensive gravel path network through the grounds;
  • incorporating a ‘village green’, to accommodate various activities including ball games and kite flying;
  • extensive tree planting to increase the amount of shade – focusing on water sustainability and utilising species with a low water consumption;
  • constructing a new picnic and BBQ shelter, which will also include tables and chairs.

Over the longer term there are also plans to upgrade the playground.

The council is now keen to establish a Friends Group amongst local residents to help develop and maintain the park. For more information please contact Open Space Manager Tim Rowe on 5142 3459.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "This great initiative is another example of what successful partnership working between the council and community can achieve. The enhancement of Brennan Park should prove a real boon to the immediate area, providing another valuable outdoor facility where residents of all ages can relax and unwind."
