Seymour Street car park plans available for viewing

Detailed plans of the multi-level car park proposed for construction at the current Seymour Street car park site in Traralgon, are now available for viewing by the public at council’s Traralgon and Morwell service centres.

By Latrobe City Council - 4th October 2006 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said public display of the plans follows Latrobe City’s receipt of a formal planning application from the developer, and is part of the statutory planning process and period of public consultation.

The project, which will be constructed on three levels by the Latrobe Regional Development Group on the existing car park land, will accommodate over three hundred car parking spaces in the central Traralgon business precinct.

The new facility will incorporate five retail premises abutting Seymour Street, and will also include new public toilet facilities to replace the existing toilet block.

Statutory advertising for the development commenced on Monday 2 October, with any submissions closing on 17 October 2006.

Council recently announced that construction is now proposed to commence in January 2007, to ensure local traders are not inconvenienced by construction works and reduced parking availability during the seasonally busy Christmas period.

Mr Buckley said that as part of the consultative process, Latrobe City has also been holding discussions with a cross section of the community in a consultative committee type arrangement.

"Later this year, Latrobe City will conduct a public information session to outline the proposed construction timetable, and in particular, discuss interim parking arrangements for the construction period," Mr Buckley said.
