Chance To Have Your Say On Rural Land Use

Bass Coast residents are invited to have their say on how rural land is used within the Shire.

By Bass Coast - 6th May 2011 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Development Services Manager, Martin Gill, said it was important to get a range of opinions on rural land use.

"Around 70 per cent of land in Bass Coast is devoted to agriculture," said Mr Gill.

"The way we plan and use rural land will obviously have a big impact on the character of our Shire.

"We expect that people who don’t even own rural land to have strong opinions about how it is used as it is such an important part of the character of our community."

You have until 20 May 2011 to register to be part of the process. Residents are encouraged to register their interest at http://consult.basscoast.vic.gov.au or via the Bass Coast Shire Council website.

"We want people to register to be involved in the process," continued Mr Gill.

"We will be asking people for their views on the role of agricultural tourism, intensive agriculture, rural living and other land uses that may be important to them.

"You don’t need to own or live on rural land to participate; all we ask that you’re interested in how it is used.

"Many residents and ratepayers value the rural feel of Bass Coast, if you’re one of them we encourage you to get involved.

"Your input will help shape the future of Bass Coast Shire," Mr Gill said.
