Greener Pastures for Traralgon Croquet Club
Sheen on new greens for Traralgon Croquet Club.
Traralgon Croquet Club is enjoying the sheen on its new greens thanks to a major development supported by the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today opened the club’s brand new facility at Glenview Park, which has been upgraded as part of the Labor Government’s $85 million Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative.
The croquet club’s former home of 60 years at Breed Street had limited capacity to host large events and allow for simultaneous play for its members.
With the site also being used as part of the Labor Government’s $57 million Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre project, an agreement was reached to develop a new and improved croquet centre alongside Latrobe Valley Racing Club and Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club.
The new centre features lighting for evening play, a new clubhouse and veranda, car parking, pedestrian access and four grassed courts.
The Labor Government provided support for Latrobe City Council to build the new facility using local contractors including RJ Low, BuildEng, Malady Electrical, Chris Larkin, Evergreen Turf and ReMarkable Fencing.
The centre will enhance the venue’s ability to attract and host major croquet events – a huge boon for local users and a drawcard for croquet fans from across Victoria.
Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing
"The new facility will allow Traralgon Croquet Club members to better participate in their sport and also provides a multipurpose centre for the whole community."
"We’re proud to be making sure sporting clubs and community groups have access to modern facilities that allow all Victorians to get active and get involved."
