Latrobe City’s Family Day Care team receives accreditation

Latrobe City’s Family Day Care care providers and Co-ordination Unit staff recently gathered together to celebrate their achievement of gaining Accreditation with the Family Day Care Quality Assurance (FDCQA).

By Latrobe City Council - 2nd July 2003 - Back to News

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss said that the FDCQA aimed to provide children in family day care throughout Australia with high quality care.

"Latrobe City adopts the same policy of providing the best care available to parents in the area. This is reflected in the excellent results achieved by the Family Day Care Team," Cr Middlemiss said.

Cr Middlemiss added that the Family Day Care team completed the Quality Assurance process and had a validation visit in March.

"The results were received in May and we are very pleased to announce that the team obtained high quality results in all six of the quality elements that were judged. These elements were interaction; physical environment; childrens’ experiences; learning and development; health, hygiene, nutrition, safety and wellbeing; and carers and Co-ordination Unit staff management and administration," Cr Middlemiss explained.

Latrobe City’s Family and Child Services Team Leader, Shirley Ruff, said that the early years of childhood development are crucial and so care providers have a duty to ensure that a quality environment is on offer.

"We know that children need stimulating and positive experiences in their early years. Our carers are trained to provide quality care within a safe, friendly and stimulating environment. With an emphasis on care in small, mixed-age groups, we believe this allows children to form important relationships outside their immediate family and fosters their development within a caring secure environment," Ms Ruff explained.

"The FDCQA provides a framework for measuring the quality of care provided, so receiving the accreditation really validates the quality care provided by our team of carers," Ms Ruff said.

Cr Middlemiss added that the Family Day Care Unit should be proud of their achievement.

"It is reassuring for parents in Latrobe City to know that they can access quality, reasonably priced care for their children," Cr Middlemiss said.

Ms Ruff added that an increased demand for childcare means that the Family Day Care unit is seeking care providers to work from their own homes.
