31St Victorian Seniors FestivalMember for Eastern Region PETER HALL MLC is encouraging senior citizens throughout Gippsland to make use of the activities that are planned for the Victorian Seniors Festival from 6 to 13 October 2013.
By Peter Hall - 28th August 2013 - Back to News "The Victorian Seniors Festival is a great opportunity for seniors throughout Gippsland to
enjoy a range of activities in their local area. Enjoy a guided walk through Nangara Reserve,
which is a 14 hectare reserve located three kilometres south west of Jindivick, bordering the
Bunyip State Park, followed by a visit to an open garden as part of Gardivalia at Warragul or
bush poetry at the Mechanics Hall, Rosedale. There will also be tennis, croquet, golf and
bowls events throughout Gippsland.
Grace Knight will give a free performance at Kernot Hall, Morwell and at the Indoor
Recreational Centre, Korumburra. Well known and popular entertainer, Denise Drysdale, is
appearing at the Boolarumah Centre, Bairnsdale and Memorial Hall, Maffra. Bookings are
essential for both events." Mr Hall said.
Mr Hall suggests you contact your local council as they can give you further information
about what’s happening in your area.
Mr Hall said that a great incentive for many senior Victorians to attend festival events was
the offer of free public transport on regional town bus services, metropolitan transport and
V/Line rail and coach services during the festival.
If you travel to Melbourne there is a Bomber Command exhibition at the Shrine of
Remembrance, which tells the story of Australian World War II airmen who flew raids over
Europe. At the St Francis Church in Lonsdale Street, a senior citizens mass and free
morning tea will be held on Monday, 7 October at 10.30am. You could also enjoy free Tai
Chi in Federation Square, which is happening every Tuesday and Friday morning in
October, to relax the body and calm the mind.
Tickets on long-distance V/Line rail services and some coach services must be booked
before travel. Free travel on V/Line economy class rail and coach services is available on 8,
9, 10, 12 and 13 October.
Mr Hall advises that reservations for the Seniors Festival free economy class travel open on
Tuesday, 10 September at 10am call 1800 800 007. If you plan to travel in a large group of
12 or more please call V/Line on 9619 2338 after 10am on Tuesday, 10 September to
ensure seats will be available.
