International Cheese Awards, UK: Maffra Cloth Aged Cheddar judged Australia’s Best Cheese … fourth consecutive year.We would like to announce that Maffra Cheese has again won Best Australian Cheese at the Nantwich International Cheese competition for the fourth consecutive year. By Portal Admin - 5th August 2016 - Back to News Maffra Cheese Co.’s Cloth Aged Cheddar was again judged Best Australian Cheese at the International Cheese Awards in the United Kingdom, marking the fourth consecutive year of winning this coveted international title.
With over 5,000 cheeses entered, the Nantwich International Cheese Awards is the largest cheese competition in the world.
In addition to Best Australian Cheese, Maffra’s Cloth Aged Cheddar also won Best Australian Cheddar (Vintage class). Maffra’s Farmhouse Brie won Best Australian in the International Soft / Semi Soft Cheese Class and Maffra Dargo Walnut was awarded Bronze in the Best Australian Any Cheese with additive class.
The accolade adds to a list of local and international awards over recent years, including:
- Grand Champion Cheese – 2012 Australian Grand Dairy Awards
- Gold Medal – 2012 World Cheese Awards in Birmingham, UK
- Best Australian Cheese – 2013 International Cheese Awards, Nantwich, UK
- Best Australia Cheese 2014 International Cheese Awards, Nantwich, UK

Maffra’s Cloth Aged Cheddar is handmade on the farm in Gippsland, using milk sourced from a single herd of heritage breed cows. It is matured in cloth and aged for at least 15 months.
