Shire votes for $2 million worth of road worksEast Gippsland’s Councillors have voted to approve two contracts worth more than $2 million for bitumen and asphalt sealing of roads within the shire. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 30th September 2005 - Back to News Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said provision for this amount was within the Shire’s Budget for the financial year 2005/2006.
"It is part of the annual program designed to maintain the Shire’s sealed roads in serviceable condition," he said.
Mr Kozlowski said the contracts were awarded to Cranes Asphalting and Bitumen Sealing Pty Ltd who would undertake road work on McCulloch St, at the BARC Centre and Goose Gully Heights in Bairnsdale; Goon Nure Road, Goon Nure; Howitt Ave, Louise Drive and Isabelle Drive, Wy Yung; McLeod St and the Nicholson St service lane, Orbost; Bete Bolong Rd, Newmerella.
"We have focused on the most ‘in need’ areas and the work will result in a significant improvement for these roads," he said.
"The specifications also call for the contractors to submit a quality management plan that includes provision to protect the environment as well as the work sites and adjacent areas."
Mr Kozlowski said that the new works would begin almost immediately.
