Ingram Working On Flood Recovery

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, said today it was too soon to place a solid figure on flood damage throughout his electorate.

By Craig Ingram MP - 6th July 2007 - Back to News

"While the clean up operations have begun, it will be a number of weeks until an accurate amount can be placed on the overall damage caused by the floods.

"Wellington and East Gippsland shires will need dramatic financial assistance to repair damage to infrastructure in the recovery phase, and both shires have been advised I will do everything I can to ensure that they receive this financial assistance from the state and federal governments.

"Our local shires and government agencies are doing a magnificent job in co-ordinating the recovery and it is important that those affected by the floods get in contact with the relevant authority so that their information can be included in the overall damage assessment.

"These include farmers, vegetable growers, business owners and households.

"I am working with the ministerial taskforce in identifying priorities during this recovery phase and would welcome any input from members of the affected communities via my office."

Mr Ingram also paid tribute to the hundreds of emergency services volunteers and community members for their magnificent efforts during the flood activity.
