Inverloch Central Drains Upgraded

Bass Coast Shire Council has upgraded the drainage system at Inverloch’s main intersection to help improve long standing drainage problems.

By Bass Coast - 9th March 2012 - Back to News

Work has taken place at the intersection of A’Beckett and Williams Streets, Ramsey Boulevard and The Esplanade. The changes to existing drainage pits and installation of new pits to deal intense rainfall events will reduce pressure within the drainage system and allow the water to flow faster out through the pipes to sea.

These works help to reduce pressure within the drainage system and allow for a faster flow of water through the pipes out to sea.
Felicity Sist, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Director said that in recent heavy rain the water was pooling in the main intersection.

"The new pits will allow water to surge into the road at points where it can quickly flow along the overland flow path and away. Garden beds in front of The Esplanade Hotel are also being changed so they will help the drainage system work, rather than hinder it, "said Ms Sist.

"These works are near completion and will improve access on our roads, footpaths and for businesses over the winter peak rainfall season."

Ms Sist stressed that these works will prevent some of the current drainage problems, however they are an interim step until Council fully reviews Inverloch’s entire drainage system.

"Council is currently working with RMIT University to carry out a full study of overland flow paths in Inverloch. This will help Council with our strategic and infrastructure planning for the whole township, and ensure that all the work we do helps to improve the drainage system’s efficiency."

Ms Sist also thanked Mr Wayne Cook from The Esplanade Hotel for his assistance with these works.
