Landcare Grants Available For Sustainable Students Young people participating in Landcare projects may be eligible for funding under the Junior Landcare Grants Program, said Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe. By Russell Northe - 16th February 2011 - Back to News Mr Northe said grants available through Landcare Australia provide funds for any school or organisation that would like to involve their students in projects in conjunction with local Landcare groups.
"There are two grants currently open for schools and youth groups to undertake environmentally friendly initiatives in their community," said Mr Northe.
"The Coles Junior Landcare School Garden Grant 2011 provides School Garden Grants of up to $1,000 to schools and youth groups to help create gardens in their grounds or community, such as bush tucker gardens, water wise gardens or veggie gardens.
"These programs encourage students to learn about the environment through outdoor learning and interaction in developing their own school gardens. All schools, kindergartens, daycare centres, and youth groups (i.e. Scouts) are eligible to apply for a Junior Landcare grant.
"Round 1 is currently open, and closes on Friday 25 February, so applications should be in as soon as possible."
The second grant is the Yates School Environmental Management Planning Grant (SEMP), to help students produce a plan for sustainable environmental practices.
"Funds from the Yates SEMP grant can be used to improve the school environment and encourage life-long learning for sustainability.
"Projects range from developing a SEMP for the school or identifying and protecting significant natural assets, to implementing actions from an existing SEMP – for example, carrying out energy, waste and water audits."
"2011 closing dates are to be confirmed, but applications can be lodged now."
