Thank You CFA

A Fire Fighter Community Appreciation Day will be held on Sunday 3 May, at Guide Park in Wonthaggi.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 21st April 2009 - Back to News

Hosted by Bass Coast Shire Council in partnership with the Wonthaggi Rotary Club, the community is invited to come along from 2pm to say thank you to the local CFA members.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr John Duscher, said it was important to acknowledge the work of local volunteers and professional fire fighters during the devastating fires of February.

"It is almost two and half months since the Black Saturday fires, but this is the first chance we have had to formally thank our CFA crews," said Cr Duscher.

"Our crews left their families and homes and went to the aid of others in a very frightening time.

"The impact of those fires will be felt for many years.  It is important to acknowledge the work that our local teams did to support CFA crews across the State."

The Appreciation Day includes formal presentations as well as a range of family friendly entertainment.

"I encourage everyone to come along and show our CFA how much we appreciate the great work they do for the community," said Cr Duscher.

"The recent bushfires have made everyone acutely aware of the role of the CFA, but the work they do goes far beyond bushfire emergency situations.

"They also respond to house fires, emergencies such as car accidents, floods and chemical spills," continued Cr Duscher.

"The CFA plays a vital role in educating the community, through their programmes to help residents minimise fire risks and develop fires plans. They also run programmes in our schools and work closely with businesses and industry."

Come along to Guide Park from 2pm on Sunday 3 May, to show your appreciation to our local CFA crews for all the work they do in our community.
