Meetings called to aid bushfire trauma recovery

Community meetings have been organised this week for those living in the Yallourn North and Tyers communities, to assist them in dealing with the trauma associated with the recent Moondarra fires.

By Latrobe City - 8th February 2006 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the meetings will provide information on how to identify and deal with the psychological after-effects of the fires and how to gain additional support.

"A major incident of this type places enormous strain on families and individuals. It is well recognised that recovery from the trauma can be assisted by those affected getting together with others in the community affected by similar circumstances; and sharing their experiences with agency personnel," Cr Price said.

"Local government has a responsibility to assist communities with recovery after an emergency, and consequently Latrobe City is auspicing these two meetings in conjunction with those involved in recovery support.

"There is no need to register prior to attending these meetings. Those wishing to come along will be welcome to just ‘turn up’."

The meeting details are as follows:

Where: Monash Public Hall

Address: Reserve Rd, Yallourn North

Date: Wednesday 8 February 2006

Time: 7pm

And

Where: Tyers Mechanics Institute Hall
