Employment Start Up A Win For Business And Young Victorians At least 1,750 unemployed young Victorians will be helped to find jobs thanks to a new $7.5 million Victorian Coalition Government business employment program. By Russell Northe - 6th August 2013 - Back to News Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Tourism Russell Northe today announced the commencement of the Employment Start Up for Business program, which is targeted to assist small and medium sized (SME) employers, with grants of $4,000 paid directly to businesses. "The Employment Start Up for Business program will help SMEs to hire unemployed young Victorians aged between 15 and 25, giving them a job and the necessary skills training to deliver a long-term benefit to the community," Mr Northe said. "This valuable initiative was first announced in the 2013-14 State Budget, and will use the statewide Victorian Government Business Office network to identify businesses that may benefit from the program. "All local governments will be briefed on the program and will be asked to assist in targeting areas of high unemployment. "Businesses will be able to apply for more than 400 grants each year for the next four years. All placements will consist of full-time employment, with accredited training tailored to the specific workplace and job description." The new grant program, to be paid directly to the employer, has been designed to assist businesses that struggle to fill skilled vacancies. The grant will be paid in two instalments – $1,000 when a young person is hired into a full-time role for at least 30 hours a week, and a further $3,000 after the employee has been employed for 16 weeks and has started accredited training. Interested employers are required to complete an application form via www.business.vic.gov.au/employ-youth. The website also contains valuable information pertaining to the recruitment process and support services available to assist with hiring new staff. Interested employers can call 13 22 15 for more information.
