New Bbq Shelter For Cape Woolamai

The construction of a new rotunda/barbeque shelter at Cape Woolamai has been completed and the installation of tables and seats will shortly follow.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 4th August 2005 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Councillor, Loretta Leslie, officially opened the facilities with a sausage sizzle last week.

Council’s Environment Manager, Paul Smith, said the area would provide a community meeting and focal point for local residents.

"The rotunda is in a great position and is available for anyone to use.

"This is a great example of community, Council and State Government working together to address community needs," said Mr Smith.

The need for a community shelter and focal point was initially identified by the 3925 group.

A partnership was then formed between Council and the Cape Woolamai Residents and Ratepayers Association (CWRRA), who applied for a grant from the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.

The grant was successful and the groups received $18,000 towards the total cost of the $36,000 project. Council and the CWRRA provided the balance of the funds and in kind support towards the project.

The builder, Dale Sartori and his team at DAS Constructions, will complete the installation of tables, seats and signage within the next few months.

The rotunda/barbeque shelter is located in the Cape Woolamai foreshore reserve at the end of Cottosloe Avenue.
