New Signage Promotes Great Alpine Road

Promotion of the Great Alpine Road has continued with directional and route signs currently being constructed and installed.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 22nd April 2004 - Back to News

East Gippsland Shire Tourism Coordinator, Stephen Kleinitz, who is also Chairman of the Great Alpine Road Marketing Committee, said the signage project should benefit all towns along the route.

"Many of the signs are already visible, both along the Great Alpine Road and other roads that connect to this route," Stephen said.

"The Great Alpine Road – the fully-sealed road linking Bairnsdale and Wangaratta via the high country - now has its own identification logo which appears on signage.

"In time it’s hoped the logos and signs will become as recognisable as signage along the world famous Great Ocean Road.

"Statistics indicate that the Great Alpine Road is becoming more and more popular for the traveller and the most positive fact from these figures is that townships along the route will be benefiting economically.

"Apart from the signage, several billboards have been erected around Melbourne to entice the city travellers, while a new touring map specific to the Great Alpine Road has been produced.

"The signage project is the beginning of the Great Alpine Road infrastructure upgrade and will complement the marketing efforts of the committee," Stephen said.
