The project group consisting of four WorkSafe officers, Crs Bruce Lougheed, Graeme Middlemiss, and Derek Amos, four community representatives and four council officers, has met five times in the last three months. "Lots of work has been done around what can and can't be included in possible service models. The project group has agreed on a list of acceptable material in categories such as greenwaste, metal products, furniture and household appliances," Mr Edgar said. "Possible service models have now been discussed and the project group is now assessing the associated risk of different handling methods, and identifying the cost of each acceptable handling method," Mr Edgar explained. "Based on cost and acceptable risk we can assess whether a feasible service could be provided for a hard waste collection. This could be a kerbside service, an at call service for a fee, a transfer station voucher, or a combination of services. Costings will be calculated prior to the next project meeting at the end of Jan 2007, and following consideration, the project group will prepare a report for council with their conclusions and suggestions for council to consider."
