User Groups Present Stadium Seating ChequeRepresentatives of the Traralgon Sports Stadium user group’s cooperative, presented Latrobe City Council with a $20,000 cheque on Friday. By Latrobe City Council - 25th June 2005 - Back to News This is the group’s contribution towards a retractable seating system for the Traralgon Indoor Sports Stadium.
The stadium seating is being fully funded with an injection of $230,000 from the State Government, together with the $20,000 user group contribution.
"In accepting the cheque on behalf of Council, Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Bruce Lougheed, said that without State funding and the user group’s generosity, an additional heavy financial burden would have been placed on the local community and the ratepayers of Latrobe.
"I thank the user groups for their generosity, though I am sure they consider it more of an investment rather than a donation, as the seating will benefit numerous sporting events that they have put substantial time and zeal into over the years," Cr Lougheed said.
Secretary of the user group’s cooperative, Lorraine Paulet, said the group had been striving to come up with a result such as that now being developed, for five or six years.
"We’re thrilled to see what we have dreamed about, coming to fruition. This has positive impacts for the whole region Ms Paulet said.
"It’s important to have facilities such as these in areas of Victoria other than Melbourne. The refurbished Traralgon Sports Stadium won’t just be a boon to the Latrobe Valley, but will be of great benefit to Gippsland sporting groups from as far afield as Orbost.
"Previously, groups in east Gippsland had to travel hundreds of extra kilometres to find a facility to meet their needs, now they have one just a few hours away.
"The Traralgon Sports Stadium is going to be a huge drawcard for attracting events to the region from all over the state," Ms Paulet added.
