Review Of Electoral Representation

Latrobe City Council has commenced its review of electoral representation

By Latrobe City Council - 1st April 2002 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council has commenced its review of electoral representation in accordance with Section 220 of the Local Government Act 1989. This section requires Council to undertake a review at least once every six years to decide (1) whether the number of voters represented by each Councillor is within 10% of the number of voters per Councillor for the entire municipal district, and (2) whether the existing ward boundaries are a fair and equitable division of the municipal district.

An information paper detailing the options available under the Act including six electoral models prepared by the Victorian Electoral Commission is available from all Citizen Service Centres.

In addition, there will be an information session open to all members of the public at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Tuesday 16 April 2002 commencing at 6pm. There is also a limited number of places available for persons interested in participating in Community Workshops and further details of such can be obtained by contacting Mark Brady on telephone 5173 1408.

Written submissions in respect of the review are now invited and will be considered by Council in accordance with Section 223 of the Act at its meeting of 6 May 2002 at the Moe Town Hall. Persons wishing to be heard in support of their submission must state so. Submissions are to be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 345, Traralgon 3844 and must be received by Friday 26 April 2002.
