By news@gippsland - 15th August 2025 - Back to News Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has congratulated Wattleglen resident Margaret Rutherford ahead of her 101st birthday later this month. Mr Chester met with Mrs Rutherford to personally pass on his best wishes for the remarkable occasion. "Reaching 101 years is an extraordinary achievement, and it was a pleasure to meet Margaret and share my congratulations ahead of her milestone birthday," Mr Chester said.

The mother of two moved to South Australia in 1969, where she spent most of her life before relocating to Sale with her daughter Rona. Although she now enjoys a quieter lifestyle, Margaret has lived a life filled with adventure and excitement. Once a thrill-seeker, she embraced activities such as hot air ballooning, hang gliding, riding Harley-Davidsons, and travelling extensively around the world. "Margaret's spirit of adventure and zest for life are truly inspiring. I wish her good health, great company, and plenty of her favourite dessert - ice cream - to celebrate this special occasion," Mr Chester said. Mr Chester said the Gippsland community could take great pride in celebrating residents who have contributed so much over their lifetime. "Margaret has lived through enormous changes in the world and has a wealth of experiences to share.
