Hospital bus stops a win for Latrobe Valley

Read more about the benefits opening a bus stop to service the Latrobe Regional Hospital will bring to the region

Patients, families and visitors will benefit from the opening of a bus stop to service the Latrobe Regional Hospital after more than 12 months of determined lobbying, Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has said.

Mr Northe revisited the issue in State Parliament on Thursday, after inaction from the Andrews Government to utilise the stop.

It's understood that from June 1, travellers headed in both directions, either to Traralgon or Moe, will be able to get on and off at stops located at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

"This is a win for our region and I commend the Latrobe Valley community for their passionate pursuit of this issue over the past 12 months," Mr Northe said.

"The stop is critical to the public transport needs of those undergoing treatment and visiting the hospital, but until now they were forced to find alternative transport or walk vast distances to use the westbound bus stop on the opposite side of the Princes Highway.

"I, along with community members, have written to the Minister for Public Transport and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) on numerous occasions to highlight the community need for this service at the Latrobe Regional Hospital. Just this week I again highlighted the issue with the Minister in State Parliament.

"While it is disappointing it has taken 12 months for the Andrews Labor Government to take action on this issue, I am pleased to see it finally opening to the public."
